Vintage Maestro Rhythm N' Sound W-2 Sound System for Woodwinds
Up for sale is another great sounding used piece, which you can pick up today, right now…. at a GREAT price!!
All analogue multi-effect unit made by Maestro (under the Gibson brand) for woodwind instruments. Featuring controls such as Fuzz Tone (inspired by the FZ-1), Cello, Tuba, Bassoon, English Horn and the infamous Oboe D'Amore favored by Zappa as well as a tremolo effect. As used by Frank Zappa & The Mothers, Van Der Graaf Generator and Kraftwerk.
This odd little thing, made by Gibson/Maestro in 1967, is not a synth but an early effects processor designed to be used with a mic’ed signal from a woodwind instrument.  It is basically made up of circuits more commonly found in an organ: frequency dividers to drop the signal down by an octave (8′) or two octaves (16′), fixed low pass, high pass, and band pass filters, and a fuzz circuit.  You can plug anything into it and it will make it sound trashy and huge.  It’s pretty cool.
Features two inputs and separate modes for clarinet or saxophone however the unit can be used with electric guitar if a preamp or boost is engaged before the unit in the signal chain.
