  • Condition: The locomotive and tender appear to be well used and certainly show their age. I have no way to test these so the condition is "as is". The 642 boxcar is in pretty nice shape, with bright lettering and color. The caboose is missing some of the lettering, but the finish of the plastic is nice and bright. The more rare #640 hopper is in very good used condition in and out. All of these appear to have some kind of scale on the wheels at the surface that mates with the track. My hunch is that this will clean up and was probably stored in a basement or cellar.

    This lot of VINTAGE AMERICAN FLYER 302 READING LINES 4-4-2 STEAM ENGINE & TENDER with a # 642 Boxcar, the 640 Hopper car, and  Caboose  appear to be often enjoyed and certainly show their age. I have no way to test the locomotive as there is no transformer with this set so the condition is "as is". The 642 boxcar is in pretty nice shape, with bright lettering and color. The caboose is missing some of the lettering, but the finish of the plastic is nice and bright. The more rare
    American Flyer #640 AF hopper is grey with white lettering version, with link couplers from the 1940s/50s. This version is apparently much harder to find than the painted grey with black lettering one and
    is in very good used condition in and out. All of these appear to have some kind of scale on the wheels at the surface that mates with the track.
