This is a single radius gouge, similar to Gilbert, Kunibert, Ross, Innoledy, offering a consistent and dependable reed-making experience.Features:
Single radius gouge. (no flipping of cane necessary.)
Compact all-aluminum construction.
Hardened steel blade of the highest quality.
Wooden ball handle for comfort. (removable)
Mounting holes in the base to allow for mounting on a bench or board.
High quality Hex screws throughout. (zero flat-head or phillips screws)

Kalmen Opperman was best known as a master clarinetist and teacher, but he also designed reed making equipment (among many other side projects.) These gougers were especially popular with oboists in New York, and with its high quality and well thought out design, it is easy to see why.
