Carolina Keepers image shows both sides of packaging. To put a Carolina Keeper on your fishing line or adjust the leader length, you simply squeeze the CK with needle-nose pliers. The CK has a slit that opens when squeezed, and you simply place the line through the hole and release the pliers. The Carolina Keeper is great for fisherman using sliding sinkers- it eliminates the need for split shot and/or swivels to keep your sinker away from your bait. Since the keeper can be easily adjusted up or down the line, you can change your leader length, change hook sizes, or re-tie after a terminal knot becomes frayed without changing your whole rig. If the CK slips, or you are using weight over ½ ounce, adding a second keeper will keep the weight in place. A second innovative use of the Carolina Keeper comes when fishing the rocky, debris-laden bottoms. The traditional West Coast method for bottom fishing when anchored is to use a torpedo sinker with a drop loop knot. We’ve all lost fish when our sinker has been stuck in the rocks after the fish makes a run- it’s a real bummer. Here's an innovative method for bottom fishing that eliminates this problem. Place 2 Carolina Keepers on the main line at your preferred leader distance. Then tie a torpedo sinker to a separate short piece of lighter test line. You may choose to make a small bulb on the end of the sinker line with a lighter (optional- takes more pull to remove from the CK this way). Squeeze the top Carolina Keeper and insert the end of the torpedo sinker drop line. This method allows the sinker to “break free” from the main line if it gets stuck in the rocks without sacrificing your fish. That’s a pretty good trade! A second benefit of this method is the elimination of line twisting that occasionally occurs with the drop loop setup
