This dessicant is made in the USA and is new product, never used. It is useful for water purification,
scuba air filtration,
drying flowers, wood and other items for crafts or even for just keeping things dry in general. It can be recharged and used over and over again simply by putting it in a large baking pan and placing it in an oven at up to 500 degrees for several hours.
This is the same stuff that sells for to per pound all over the web. I purchased a large quantity at a great price so I'll share the savings with you.
The greatest reason for failure when resin stabilizing is that the wood just wasn't dry enough. Kiln dried is 'wet' when it comes to stabilizing, and even 5% is far too much. For the best penetration you need to get the mositure below 2%, and this is difficult.
This is an absolutely necessary item for removing the moisture from small wood blanks in preparation for resin stabilization because if you don't remove the moisture it can't fully absorb the resin. This is a powerful dessicant that will remove virtually all of the moisture from a wood blank up to 2" thick and maybe 12" or so in length and/or width in ten days or less under most circumstances. It will work with much larger items but you would need a large container full and the larger the blank, the better chance it will crack badly so I don't reccommend it. I use it for blocks up to 3x3x12 but mostly for 1" thick stock and am impressed with how well it works compared to common silica gel dessicant. Please see our line of rechargeable cloth activated alumina drying bags in our store, which makes it even easier to use this stuff!
To use, just put the activated alumina in a bucket, bin or a large plastic bag, place the wood blank(s) in it and seal it. If you weigh the blanks prior to beginning the process you can weigh and compare daily until the weight no longer changes, then you know it is ready to go into the resin.
This is heavy and expensive to ship so there will be no returns on this product. Please do not purchase if this is a problem for you.
